This excellent resource will guide you through the poetry book ‘Wouldn’t it be awesome if…’ *one poem at a time. It focuses on different aspects linked to word meaning, use of descriptive language, spotting language features such as, alliteration, rhyme, near rhyme, author’s intentions and much more. In this package you will receive: One set of questions for each poem (6 poems) Two additional sets of questions linking to all the poems and one set linking to conservation and the Borneo Nature Foundation (information contained at the back of the poetry book) Each set varies between 6 – 10 questions Questions pitched at Years 3 and 4 following shared discussions as part of guided reading or Years 5 and 6 as an independent task. At the end of this reading children should be equipped to write their own poetry in a similar style and structure or take on their own poetic structure.

RAINFOREST POETRY - Wouldn’t it be awesome if… This resource is a three part lesson linked to the poetry book ‘Wouldn’t it be awesome if…’ - a great book to support a rainforest project linking to the island of Borneo. This resource includes: PPT guiding you through the poetry lessons Key vocabulary linked to poetry An introduction to the illustrator and author Real photographs and beautiful illustrations of rainforest animals Learning objectives: To read and recite poetry with intonation and expression. To identify and discuss the features of poetry. To develop research skills. To write own poetry using a familiar structure which includes interesting language and facts about rainforest animals. Learning activity: Children take one poem from the book and in teams analyse the poem and perform it. You can add sound effects using body percussion or instruments. Children complete research about a chosen rainforest animal Children write their own peom using the same style and structure as ‘Wouldn’t it be awesome if …’ You will need: A copy of the poetry book ‘Wouldn’t it be awesome if …’ by Katherine Wheatley and illustrated by Megan Elliott A perfect combination of resources which also works well with the Awesome Island Project Resources. This would make a perfect class or year group assembly too! Additional resources available: Comprehension activity available with mulitple comprehension questions linked to each poem. Beautiful poetry sheets for children to record their learning linked to the same animals in the poetry book.
